01Overview

Most accounting problems are bookkeeping problems that were left too long. A bank account that has not been reconciled since spring. A credit card coded to the wrong place. A supplier paid twice. None of it is dramatic on its own. By year-end it is a reconstruction.

We keep the ledger current every month. Bank, credit card and merchant accounts are reconciled, receivables and payables are reviewed, and the month is closed on a date agreed at the start of the year. The statements that come out of it are prepared under Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE), so a lender, a buyer or your external accountant can rely on them without reworking them.

02What it covers
  1. 01

    Monthly bookkeeping and reconciliations

Every bank, credit card and merchant settlement account reconciled to the statement each month, with differences explained rather than plugged.

  2. 02

    Month-end close

A close calendar agreed for the year. The reporting pack lands on the same working day every month, whether or not it contains good news.

  3. 03

    Financial statement preparation

Balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement prepared under ASPE, with notes where they are needed. IFRS where a parent company or lender requires it.

  4. 04

    Receivables and payables

Aged receivables reviewed monthly and followed up. Supplier invoices approved and scheduled so early-payment terms are used and late fees are not.

  5. 05

    Catch-up and clean-up

Books that have fallen behind are brought current in a defined project with a fixed end date, then handed into a monthly routine.

  6. 06

Year-end file for your external accountant

Working papers, schedules and reconciliations prepared so the accountant who signs the year-end starts work instead of chasing it.

03What you receive

Deliverables, named in the engagement letter.

Scope, deadlines and fee are agreed in writing before work begins. What follows is what that letter typically lists for this service.

  • Reconciled ledger, closed by the agreed date each month
  • Monthly financial statements and a short commentary
  • Aged receivables and payables listings
  • Year-end file delivered to your external accountant before they ask

Tell us where the books stand. We will tell you what it takes.

Describe the situation and you will get a straight answer about what the work involves, what it costs, and how soon it can begin. Nothing is billed until an engagement letter is signed by both sides.
